The Social Development Committee VI (SDC-VI), a sector committee of the Regional Development Council VI (RDC-VI) chaired by Antique Province’ Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao, favorably endorsed to the RDC-VI the six chapters and sub-chapters of the 2023-2028 Western Visayas Regional Development Plan (WV-RDP) and memoranda responding to health, education, and labor-related concerns of the region.
The WV-RDP Planning Committee Chairpersons presented the following chapters for approval: Chapter 4.1 (Boost Health) by Dr. Jocelyn Te of the Department of Health (DOH); Chapter 4.2 (Improve Education and Lifelong Learning) by Ms. Maydelyn Antioquia of the Department of Education (DepEd); Chapter 4.3 (Establish Livable Communities) by Ms. Almi Flo Endonila of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD); Chapter 4.4 (Protecting the Rights, Promoting the Welfare and Expanding Opportunities for Overseas Filipinos) by Atty. Michael Joseph Escaner of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW); Chapter 5 (Increase Income-earning Ability) by Atty. Dax Villaruel of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE); and Chapter 6.2 Strengthen Social Protection by Mr. Roxie Abagatnan of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The discussion of the said chapters before the members of the SDC is the culmination of a series of reviews and consultations held at various times throughout the fourth quarter of 2022 and first quarter of 2023.
The Committee also deliberated on and agreed to endorse to the RDC several resolutions on health, education and labor such as the DOH’s Rabies Vaccination Program, and its Supplemental Immunization Program. Likewise, the SDC passed the Commission on Higher Education’s list of priority projects for its scholarship programs, as well as RDC Ilocos Region’s resolution requesting support for House Bill 6550, otherwise known as “An Act Instituting the Magna Carta of Day Care Workers and Providing Funds Therefore”.
Present during the SDC First Quarter Regular Meeting for 2023, held at the Jalaur Conference Hall of the NEDA Regional Office VI on March 9, 2023, were heads of offices and representatives of regional line agencies, local government units and the private sector. (KSMedianero/NEDA VI)
