The Regional Statistics Committee of Western Visayas (RSC-VI) was recently conferred the first Gawad Estadistika Award conferred by the Philippine Statistical Association, Inc. (PSAI) during the PSAI Annual National Conference in September 6, 2019 at Subic, Zambales.
The RSC-VI was given a trophy and Php10,000 cash prize in recognition for its significant contribution towards the development and intensified use of statistics in development planning in the Western Visayas Region. The RSC-VI is starting to initiatiate activities toward the establishment Provincial Statistics Committees in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental that strengthened local databanks and enhanced the competencies of local technical staffs in generating updated statistics for local planning, programming, policy formulation and decision-making.
The Regional Statistics Committee is the lead body composed of government agencies, local government units and private sector organizations that oversees statistical development policies and activities in the Region. The National Economic and Development Authority-Region VI (NEDA-VI) serves as its Chairperson while the Philippine Statistics Authority-Region VI serves as its Vice-Chairperson and Secretariat.
Along with the RSC-VI members, NEDA-VI Regional Director Ro-Ann A. Bacal officially received the award during the RSC-VI 3rd Quarter Meeting on September 9, 2019. The recognition serves as a motivation for the Committee to continue its efforts to strengthen the member agencies’ statistical capability and streamline the use of statistics in decision-making.
Established in 2017, the Gawad Estadistika aims to recognize individuals or group/institution that made the most significant contribution towards the development and intensified use of statistics in line with the PSAI’s mission and vision.
The PSAI is a private non-stock and non-profit society of statisticians and allied professionals committed to advance the statistics profession and to promote sound statistical science for the welfare of all Filipinos and the entire humanity (rgc/DRD).
