The Regional Development Council (RDC) VI recognized the Outstanding Volunteers of Western Visayas on December 13, 2022 during the RDC-VI Fourth Quarter Full Council Meeting, as part of the culmination activity of the 2022 Search for Outstanding Volunteers.

A total of 22 regional awardees from four different categories – Individual (Youth), Individual (Adult), Organization (Non-Profit), Organization (Corporate) each received a plaque and certificate in recognition of their valuable contribution towards nation-building by empowering communities and promoting volunteerism as a way of life.

This year’s Search started its call for nominations on August 3 until September 15, 2022. All nominations were first subjected to paper validation by the technical secretariat. The nominees who were shortlisted moved on to the virtual validation conducted by the Regional Search Committee (RSC) VI that was conducted on November 3, 2022.

The RSC VI composed of Mr. Franz Remar Garion of the Philippine Information Agency VI, Mar Anthony Balani of the Department of the Interior and Local Government VI, Ms. Febie Ibojos of Signpost Philippines, Inc. and Ms. Yvette Batacandolo of NEDA VI, endorsed to the PNVSCA the following regional winners in the individual and organization categories, as nominees for the National Outstanding Volunteer award:

  • John Marlou B. Salido, regional nominee for the Individual – Youth category, started several initiatives for children and the poor. He helped families affected by Typhoon Ulysses in the Province of Aklan;
  • Gloria Concepcion H. Moralidad, regional nominee for the Individual – Adult category, initiated programs that safeguard and secure brighter futures for children, as well as involved the community in motivating others and improving children’s lives;
  • Order of Asclepius, regional nominee for the Organization – Non-Profit category, organized programs including free medical and surgical missions, public health campaigns, and programs to the various parts of the region and;
  • Youth First Initiative Philippines, Inc., regional nominee for the Organization – Corporate category, conducted activities to support   MSMEs, entrepreneurs, and startups, and provided them with a platform to communicate with their target market.

The Search for Outstanding Volunteers (SOV) is the centerpiece activity of the National Volunteer Month (NVM) that is observed every December pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 55, s. 1998 (RDADeJuan/DRD).
