The NEDA Regional Office VI through its Project Development, Investment Programming and Budget Division conducted a course on Project Evaluation and Development (PED) for the West Visayas State University on May 3-12, 2021.  This is the third offering of the PED Course for LGUs and SUCs – the first was in the Province of Antique for its provincial and 5 municipal teams followed by the Province of Guimaras for its 3 provincial and 5 municipal teams.  The course is anchored on the NEDA Provincial/Local Planning and Expenditure Management Guidelines. The training for WVSU served as the pilot course for SUCs.  It was made possible thru partnership with President Joselito F. Villaruz in coordination with the University Planning and Development Office. Fifty (50) participants attended a blend of online and onsite sessions.

WVSU requested NEDA VI to conduct a project development training in order to enhance the knowledge and skills of its faculty and staff in preparing project proposals responsive to the requirements of the Three-year Rolling Infrastructure Program (TRIP) through the PIPOL System of NEDA and project documents prescribed by the DBM. Thus, a special topic on potential funding sources and filling out of the required fields under the PIPOL was included in the training with the drafting of a basic project proposal as the source of data/information for proposed projects under the TRIP. The university and its major units were also encouraged to establish a monitoring and evaluation system to focus on government-subsidized projects, especially those funded under its internally generated income.

As a result of the training, nine project proposals were drafted by the participants consisting of the campus administrators, planning, budget and other faculty/staff of the seven campuses (Calinog, Himamaylan City, Janiuay, Lambunao, Pototan, the external College of Agriculture and Forestry, and main campus in Iloilo City) and the WVSU Medical Center.
