The National Economic and Development Authority 6 (NEDA6) and Department of Science and Technology 6 (DOST6), conducted an orientation meeting on the Regional Geographic Information Network – Innovation Hub (RGIN-IH) VI on June 3, 2022.

The three-hour activity was a blended setup of face-to-face attendees at the Jalaur Conference Hall of the NEDA Regional Office 6 and virtual participants via Zoom teleconference. The orientation was participated by more than 60 GIS/technical staff from the National Government Agencies (NGAs), Provincial and City Local Government Units (P/CLGUs), and State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) of Western Visayas.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Yvette G. Batacandolo, RGIN-IH program manager, emphasized the importance of the project and its advantages in various fields. Mr. Giovanni Maguddayao, Economic Development Specialist II of the Development Research Division of NEDA Region 2 and resource person during the orientation, discussed RGIN’s history, challenges, achievements, geoportal features, and capability-building activities of the priority regions.

DOST- 6 Regional Director Engr. Rowen Gelonga during his closing message, stated that the RGIN project will further elevate regional competency and capability in harnessing the potential of GIS technology and, in the process, leveling up the quality of services to all stakeholders.

The RGIN-IH 6 project is being funded by DOST6 while the geoportal server is hosted by and administered at NEDA6 with the assistance of the two project staff who were hired on March 16, 2022. (JADelfin/RGIN 6)
