With the theme “Facts and Figures for the Future: Statistics for Evidence-Based Decisions Towards AmBisyon Natin 2040,” the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA-VI), in close collaboration with the Philippine Statistics Authority and members of the Regional Statistics Committee, hosted the Opening Program of the 28th National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration for Western Visayas last October 4, 2017 at the Robinsons Place Activity Center in Jaro, Iloilo City.
The theme reflects the importance of reliable statistics and factual information in determining appropriate strategies for tracking the country’s progress towards AmBisyon Natin 2040 where all Filipinos are envisioned to enjoy a matatag, maginhawa, at panatag na buhay.
In line with the theme’s objectives, NEDA Regional Director Ro-Ann A. Bacal talked about the 2017-2022 Medium-Term Regional Development Plan, the first of four development plans geared towards the achievement of AmBisyon Natin 2040.
The activity was also an opportunity for the region to launch the music video Tunog ng Progreso performed by Thyro which takes inspiration from the country’s economic performance over the years. NEDA VI hopes to reach more people in the most creative way in sharing the Economic growth story of the country through music.
One of the highlights of the activity is the opening of the Statistical Exhibit which followed right after the opening program. The exhibit which will run until October 18, 2017 is participated by national government agencies and state universities and colleges who are members of the Regional Statistics Committee.
Guests and participants were also entertained by the Claravall-Gonzales School of Classical Ballet and Little Big Shots Philippines’ performer and The Voice Kids Season 2 finalist, Galeno “Rock” Opong.
The month-long celebration includes activities that aim to promote regionwide awareness and appreciation of the value of statistics among different sectors of society. (CPGaitana/NEDA)
