The Organization of NEDA Employees – Region VI Chapter, in partnership with the National Economic and Development Authority – Region VI, and the Tawo ang Sentro Credit Cooperative (TASCC), conducted an outreach program entitled “Adopt a School, Build the Future” at Quinangyana Elementary School (QES) in Barangay Quinangyana, Bingawan, Iloilo on July 5, 2019.
Different organizations including Green Cross, Inc., YGOAL, Inc., BrainTrain School of Positivity, Ace2Ace Training and Education, and ISCOF-Dingle Student Council; selected learners and parents of West Visayas State University (WVSU)-Integrated Laboratory School (ILS); and individual donors helped in providing 104 pupils from Kinder to Grade VI with backpacks, school supplies, raincoats, hygiene kits and food items.
In his message, Marlon T. Jinon, President of ONE-VI, emphasized the value of giving back to the community being a former beneficiary himself. Meanwhile, RD Ro-Ann A. Bacal of NEDA-VI, reminded the children to study diligently and complete their education in order to be better ready to fulfil their dreams and become assets of our country. She highlighted the continuing efforts of government to uplift the lives of families in far-to-reach areas.
Roanni L. Magdaug, President of TASCC, encouraged the learners to be responsible students both at home and at school; while Maria Jeannette R. Latumbo, representative of the students and parents of WVSU-ILS, shared how the outreach program renewed their perspective and assured their utmost support to future endeavors of ONE-VI. Furthermore, Jeffrey Abad of Green Cross, Inc. highlighted the importance of proper handwashing to prevent communicable diseases that mostly affect school children.
Roger F. Pamocol, Punong Brangay of Quinangyana, Bingawan, welcomed the aid and cited how his community appreciates the efforts of the organizers to travel and spare time to be with them. Likewise, Alona L. Chiva, DepEd District Supervisor of Bingawan, expressed how overwhelmed she was with the support received by the School.
The QES teachers led by Merlyn G. Faraon also received school supplies and first aid kits which can enhance their productivity and promote better health and sanitation at school.
The community outreach is an annual activity of ONE-VI to support disadvantaged communities in the countryside. To generate funds for this activity, a garage sale participated by NEDA-VI employees was organized by ONE-VI on April 5, 2019 and July 4, 2019. NEDA-VI Retiree Othelo B. Derecho and resident of Barangay Quinangyana, also served as liaison and benefactor of the outreach.
