A training-workshop on Communicating Statistics Using Infographics was conducted by NEDA-VI for its staff and also for the statisticians, communication personnel, public relation officers, and web designers from local government units, national government agencies and the academe on July 19-21, 2017 at the Amigo Terrace Hotel, Iloilo City. Sixty (60) participants attended the activity.
The training-workshop discussed techniques on visual communication, exploratory data analysis and social media, and workshops on creating infographics.
NEDA-VI Regional Director Ro-Ann A. Bacal, CESO III welcomed the resource persons and participants. She emphasized that statistics are critical in understanding past vis-à-vis current trends and forecasting what may happen in the future. She added that the challenge is how to help stakeholders and the general public digest the many available data, sift through key information, make complex information easier to absorb, and present valuable information in plans, projects, and reports through infographics in information, education and communication materials.
“While infographics may be imagined as figures and charts put together, it is important how to illustrate a principle, as clearly and effectively as possible, with a well-thought out content and design,” Bacal said.
Mr. Patrick Armand Salamat, Senior Communications Specialist, and Ms. Raissa P. Angeles, a Senior Information Officer, at NEDA Central Office’s Development Information Staff (DIS) served as resource persons during the three-day activity.
The NEDA-VI is keen on conducting similar trainings in the future, particularly on October 2017, as part of the National Statistics Month activities. (CPGaitana/NEDA6)
