The National Economic and Development Authority Regional Office VI gathered its development partners for a Consultative Meeting on Socio-Economic Indicators and its prescribed form as enrolled in the ISO Quality Operating Procedure (QOP) on January 30, 2019 at the Jalaur Conference Room, NEDA-VI Building, Fort San Pedro, Iloilo City.
A total of 44 participants attended the meeting composed of representatives from various regional line agencies, local economic and investment promotions offices (LEIPO) of the 6 provinces of Western Visayas, and private ICT organizations.
NEDA-VI Regional Director Ro-Ann A. Bacal welcomed the participants and explained the importance and highlights of the annual Socio-Economic Report (SER) and the Quarterly Regional Economic Situationer (QRES). She emphasized the importance of data submitted by all development partners that forms part of the SER and QRES as the reports provide the general public and, especially the private business community the latest information on the performance of the region’s economy and, at the same time, serve as a guide to business groups and investors in their planning and decision-making.
In order to have a better understanding on the SER and QRES, Chief Development Economic Specialist Maria Teresa Guadalupe gave an overview on the preparation and content of these documents. She presented the list of indicators that are needed that will gauge the economic performance of the area. She also discussed the process and timelines of gathering the needed data, and gaps in the information provided by concerned agencies. This was discussed in detail by Supervising Economic Development Specialist Yvette G. Batacandolo.
An agreement was then made in terms of the final list of indicators that will be maintained for both SER and QRES, the deadline of data submissions, and the list of focal persons of partner agencies.
NEDA-VI OIC-Assistant Regional Director Gilberto A. Altura thanked everyone for their active participation in the meeting and reminded everyone that the reports produced by NEDA play a crucial role in tracking and steering collective efforts towards the realization of the Ambisyon for Western Visayas as reflected in the objectives and targets set in the Regional Development Plan 2017-2022.
The consultative meeting was conducted as one of the many continued efforts of NEDA-VI to improve quality management systems in relation to its recent ISO 9001-2015 Certification. (DRD)
