The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA spearheaded the conduct of consultation workshops between October 31 to December 7, 2022 relative to the formulation of the Western Visayas Regional Development Plan (WV-RDP), 2023-2028.
The NEDA, as the national planning body responsible for coordinating the formulation socioeconomic development plans, policies and programs, in close coordination with the Planning Committees and regional line agencies, steers and coordinates the consultative process and preparation of the country’s medium-term development plan at the beginning of each administration. A total of 19 Planning Committees were activated in the region which oversee the formulation of the respective thematic chapters. The formulation of the plan employs the whole of society approach where the government engages all stakeholders including the civil society, communities, academia, private sector, and CSOs/NGOs.
The series of activities provided venue for the development partners to identify strategic actions and priority programs and projects that will help the region sustain recovery from the pandemic and realize economic transformation in the next six years. The draft Western Visayas RDP 2023-2028 will be presented during the RDP review forum set in January 2023. The Plan is slated to be presented to the RDC-VI Full Council for approval and adoption in February 2023. Once approved, the RDP shall serve as the region’s blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. The RDC-VI will have oversight role in ensuring that all regional agencies, LGUs, government corporations and financial institutions, state universities and colleges, non-government organizations and private sector development partners carry out the necessary interventions to operationalize and realize the Plan (JBPamonag/PFPD).
