The NRO6 conducted an Orientation on Security Awareness for its officials and staff last August 18, 2021 via Zoom Platform. The webinar was organized as requested by the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency Regional Office VI (NICA VI), in support to the Executive Order No. 608, series of 2007. It aims to increase awareness on the communist insurgency in our country and help government agencies protect their resources from espionage, sabotage and pilferage.
The one-day seminar mainly tackled various Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) problems encountered by the government. NRO 6 OIC-Regional Director Meylene C. Rosales, delivered the welcome remarks.
Mr. Bobby Rodriguez of NICA 6, a researcher from the Counterintelligence Division (CID) familiarized the NRO6 staff on the common lines and terms when referring to the CTG. Mr. Jay Andrade, also a researcher of CID talked about the CTG infiltration of the bureaucracy and the National Democratic Front (NDFP) of the Philippines as a terrorist group. NICA 6 invited Ka Winnie, a former rebel who surrendered to the folds of the government, to share on his various experiences on infiltrating government offices and organizing in urban areas. He revealed the strategies on how infiltration was done in target organizations and how they recruited their members. NEDA, as an agency, was included among the list of infiltrated agencies which raised questions from the staff on how they were classified and promoted further discussions.
Ms. Mira Salvador, also a researcher from the CID, discussed on the proper handling of classified documents and personal security. Mr. Jay Andrade and Assistant Regional Director Jan Ramos discussed on the personnel, physical, and communication securities.(FAD/LALaurente)
